House of Matriarch is pleased to announce what Perfumer Christi Meshell is calling one of the "most exciting projects" she has ever released.
SEATTLE, WA: 25 years have passed since Laura Palmer, the troubled coquette who worked at the perfume counter of Horne's Department Store in David Lynch's Twin Peaks, made her impression on the minds and hearts of an entire generation. Since, the resounding echoes and haunting chords of the soundtrack have kept her memory and the mysteries surrounding her death brewing in the collective consciousness. They also ignited the creative inspiration for a collection of perfumes both "wonderful and strange".
Residing near the Snoqualmie Forest where the series was filmed, our Perfumer has a deep knowing of how the dark woods depicted in the series would smell. In a video of Angelo Badalamenti, the composer of the famous soundtrack, he recounts the story of how he and David Lynch sat together at his piano to co-compose the soundtrack. As she followed along, Christi began to imagine the aromas which seemed to accompany the famous question still being asked: "Who killed Laura Palmer?"

In celebration of the 7th Anniversary of ÇaFleureBon, eight perfumers were invited to create perfumes drawing inspiration from a brief written by the blog's founder and Editor in Chief, Michelyn Camen. Her request called for a perfume powerful enough to attract good fortune and ward off negativity - even the dreaded curse of the "evil eye". House of Matriarch created ANTIMONY in response to Michelyn's brief.
Charred frankincense, kewra, henna, Palo Santo, galangal, sandalwood ashes, spikenard, ghee, copal, oud and precious attars of mitti, kadam and rose have all been used to create enchanted cosmetics throughout history. They are all notes used in the formulation of this beautiful talismanic perfume which contains exactly 111 individual notes. Subtle by design, exotic florals push up from a primitive base to bloom on your skin as they emanate like an ancient wisp of fine bakhoor.
These ancient aromas transport the wearer like a magic carpet to a dimension where cosmetics have magical purposes - the very essence of "a glamour." A nod to a forgotten lifetime when eye shadow was compounded from powdered minerals, oils and the ashes of incense and applied by a shaman or priestess or in wealthy kingdoms, a Court Perfumer.

MAGIC in a bottle - and perhaps one of the finest blends of sustainable and vintage oud in existence. This smooth and velvety (oud) blend made it's debut in our ACHTUNG collection and contains several varieties of new sustainable and vintage oud wood extracts. No artificial oud - all varieties are 100% natural.
A spray or dab of this incredible oud accord on it's own is exquisite and transportative. The blend can also serve as a base to your fragrance layering experiments. When used for meditation or other sacred work, it elevates the seeker to higher planes by opening pathways in the brain which enable us to connect with The Divine.
This blend is featured prominently in our perfumes SEXMAGIC and DEVOTION.

Choya Loban, a type of Indian frankincense, adds a resiny dryness that works very well with the brief hit of bitter orange to introduce the warm, salty ambergris that dominates the scent. Christi Meshell, the perfumer behind House of Matriarch, is well-known for her deft use of naturals and her witchy-hippy aesthetic, and both these sides are showcased perfectly in Orca.
The perfume uses a natural tincture of ambergris that Christi herself produced using a large and rare vintage piece of ambergris sourced from New Zealand. The drydown last forever, as befits a high dosage of natural ambergris, a dry veil of sparkling beach resins, salt, and spicy woods that is only very faintly sweet. I can imagine that on the slightly sweaty skin of a beach girl or boy, this stuff would be the sex bomb to end all sex bombs. Claire Vukecvic, Basenotes See the full article here.
