High Perfumery is a branch of Epicureanism. Those familiar with the philosophies of Epicureanism know that the goals are beauty, inspiration and tranquility - the same goals of fine fragrance creation. Here, I share my Manifesta of High Perfumery - the 8 standards which can elevate a perfume from a mere scent to a work of High Art.
Epicureanism must be distinguished from hedonism, which always involves a negative aftermath - a price to pay. If the restraint necessary for the practice of Epicureanism is lost, the pleasure is corrupted into divine discontent and dis-ease ensues. A perfume can be exceptionally beautiful and alluring, however if it does not meet the standards of Epicureanism, it cannot be considered High Perfumery.

Albatross Aquatic
Rare, magnificent and auspicious, the albatross bird is the captain of the air. The natural marine accord celebrates that spirit, the fresh coolness of where the ocean meets the sky. Salty Salish Sea breezes meet the soft warm notes of cork, driftwood and cottonwood evoking images of seafaring vessels, creosote-soaked timber, and barnacle covered hulls. Black No 1 Leather
A living work of liquid art, our first cult classic was launched as BLACKBIRD in 2012. Named “SEXIEST SCENT” at the International Artisan Fragrance Awards, TOP MEN’S FRAGRANCE by Men’s Journal Magazine and BEST OF THE WEST by Sunset Magazine, this worldly and penetrating perfume contains hundreds of exotic natural essences and has a living spirit of it's own.
Black No. 1 has evolved in it's identity while retaining all of her original magnificence; only the name of this perfume has evolved; the formulation is exactly the same. Coco Blanc Gourmand
The “Gourmand Gold Standard”, an irresistible vanilla musk. The perfume explorer does not need to be a fan of exotic niche fragrances to enjoy this perfume. It is a universally loved accord of the highest quality noble materials which are lactonic, vanillic and warmly appealing to almost everyone. Fresh in its unfolding; tart notes from rooibos, exotic flares from aglaia and mimosa and a touch of coffee flower meld, as double blooming Roman chamomile dances above.

We're trending! Last week House of Matriarch participated in Downtown Seattle Nordstrom Fall 2015 Beauty Trend Show. At this seasonal event, the Nordstrom beauty department reveals what is on trend in Beauty and the season's must-haves.
Of course, being a new product in the department made House of Matriarch a go-to for the event. Beyond that, House of Matriarch perfumes are relevant because of trending demand from customers for more natural products and meaningful luxury. Shop our fragrances trending in Nordstrom here.

Our Creatrix, Christi Meshell was there for the show and spent time meeting with customers and sharing her passion for the natural ingredients that make up our artisan fragrances.
The Beauty Trend Show also gave us the opportunity to meet the other brand founders who had been invited to present at Trend, like Dr Robb co-founder of Clairsonic.
House Of Matriarch High Perfumery was also premiered during Downtown Seattle Nordstrom Customer Rewards Night holiday shopping party last week! This after-hours VIP shopping experience gave us the opportunity to connect with our customers in a more personal setting.
And as usual, Christi made fast friends with the DJ <3
