House of Matriarch perfume were featured at GBK's pre-Primetime Emmys Celebrity Gift Lounge, an invitation-only luxury celebrity gift lounge hosted by The Artisan Group on August 23-24, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California, in honor of the 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards nominees and presenters.
Matriarch was honored to be the only fragrance brand in recent years invited to participate in this elite event. Luxury fragrances Blackbird & Coco Blanc were prominently displayed, and all 100+ attending celebrities were gifted with mini's of both perfumes in their VIP gift bags. Motion picture Matriarch Angela Bassett (an enthusiastic advocate of the arts and artisan crafted products) sported both fragrances at the event: one on each arm!
As a scotch connoisseur, Jamie Gray Hyder, co-star of Graceland has a discerning olfactory palate. Here she enjoys the gourmand notes of Coco Blanc.
The stunning Dascha Polanco, co-star of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, posing with Matriarch's Coco Blanc. A wedding day fragrance, perhaps?
House of Matriarch's Perfumer Christi Meshell would like to thank The Artisan Group and Valerie Propst Guerrero for selecting House of Matriarch for this star studded event, and for all that they are doing to support artisan craftsmanship. Located on Seattle's Eastside, House of Matriarch creates perfumes and flavors for niche market segments and independent private labels. Our award winning perfumes are created with timeless methods and noble materials. Through the ancient Royal Art of High Perfumery, we enter the Temple of Alchemy to embody fragrance at its highest: Mother Nature in liquid form.

Our Perfumer and brand visionary, Christi Meshell is "the Nose" behind some of the most compelling new fragrances in today's niche marketplace. Her versatility as both Creative Director and Fragrance Composer allow her to single-handedly develop a concept from initial inspiration through final display. Each of her creations is an original design, composed from her proprietary accords and without any premixed bases or fillers. Critics and fans continually laud her designs with accolades like "The Gold Standard in Fragrance", "Genius in a Bottle" and "The Priestess of Perfumery".
A mystical heritage has called her the lifelong study of magical correspondences, plant medicine and sacred cosmology, knowledge which finds practical application in the fragrance creation process. In August, 2013 Christi received the title Top Artisan Perfumer at the International Fragrance Awards and in December, 2013 House of Matriarch was named TOP INDIE FRAGRANCE HOUSE of 2013 by Cafleurebon. Her work has also been praised in Men's Journal, Sunset Magazine and Seattle Magazine.
Christi launched her first perfume in Bellevue in 2009, and she's been churning out award winning compositions under her own Matriarch brand and for private labels all around the world. Her first cult classic, BLACKBIRD created a stir in fragrance circles in 2012 when it beat out anchor brands like Versace and Chanel in sniff tests. Some say BLACKBIRD marked the "dawn of a new era in perfumery" . Now all eyes are on Seattle and the "fragrance revolution" she has been credited with igniting.

Finding it difficult to buy for him this Christmas and worried that you haven’t got much time left? Whether it’s time the man in your life upgraded his luggage with something more stylish or if you think he would simply love to have a pop-up bar for a night with friends, regardless of the setting, then these ideas and more can be found below.
BLACKBIRD perfume from House of Matriarch
BLACKBIRD from House of Matriarch was named ‘Top Scent for 2013′ by Men’s Journal Magazine, “Best of the West” by Sunset Magazine and ‘Sexiest Scent’ at the International Artisan Fragrance Awards. Created to honor the mysterious essence of Seattle style makers and artists, this worldly and penetrating perfume contains hundreds of exotic and rare aromas. NW conifers, Puget Sound seaweed, black leather, rare oud and cannabis: favorite notes of the Seattle avant garde. Genuine animal fixatives add depth and sex appeal.
Offered at 33% concentration, the extrait is such a dark green, it’s nearly black. 93% natural raw materials, 7% aroma molecules in a base of organic grape ethanol. Unforgettable.

"My wife and I just returned from Paris. I wore Blackbird exclusively during the whole trip. Blackbird went fantastic with the fall Parisian air. Now, it reminds me of Paris. I used so much of it I ran out of it on the last day and left it at the grave of Jim Morrison at Pere Lachaise cemetery."
"Sadly, I don't have a visible picture of Blackbird because it is hidden among the roses at Jim Morrison's grave. Unfortunately, there were too many people there to jump the fence and take a closeup. There are three reason why I left Blackbird with Morrison in Paris. First, as I have been learning about perfumery, most of the fragrances I have sampled have been produced in Paris, except for those from the House of Matriarch.
I wanted to bring an extraordinarily unique, complex, and American parfum to Paris. Blackbird was perfect. I wanted to bring something extraordinary from the new world back to the old.

Secondly, my intention in traveling to Paris in my fortieth year was to reassess the good and the bad in my half life. I felt Blackbird would be the perfect companion. During this 10 day trip, filled with a manic energy, we walked almost 17 miles per day, as we enjoyed Paris, its sights, smells, its architecture, and the incredible art produced there..... Blackbird was the perfect complement. I almost lost Blackbird half way through the trip as I had a hole in my jeans. My wife and I actually searched the streets of Paris to find Blackbird to no avail. I learned something about letting things go that day.
However, upon returning to our hotel, a thought hit me and I realized that I had worn a different pair of shoes the day before. It was the only place we had not looked and we found it. Miraculously, Blackbird slipped into the only place where I could find it again. I was thrilled... I thought to myself, well.. my Blackbird adventure continues...

During my trip, I thought often about your story of how Christi came up with Blackbird - the artistic process, inspiration, life, death...
As we were walking at a pretty heavy pace, we ended up collapsing of heat exhaustion near the Sorbonne after walking the entire grand canal at Versailles. It was at this time that I learned more about what and who are important and inspirational to me and what I am grateful for. I felt great to be alive. And that there is so much beauty around us.

It was at this time that I wanted to pay homage to the greats that have come before us and have created such great beauty. After recovering for a day, I wanted to visit Pere Lachaise. First, we visited the grave of Oscar Wilde, Chopin, and lastly, Jim Morrison. I wanted to leave Blackbird as a token of appreciation to the artistic process, Paris, and to an international American icon whose music has inspired me and my wife. Boy, were we exhausted, but exhilarated.
I feel revitalized since my trip to Paris. And Blackbird was integral to my experience. Thank you very much for letting me into the world of an artist."
